Julia here. I hope you're all pleasantly busy in prep for the holiday season. I know it can be a hectic time of the year, and in all the commotion, it's easy to get so caught up in the gift-buying that you push other priorities to the side. I think it's still important to remember that the season of giving shouldn't just be about the physical gifts. This time of year is also the perfect time to be charitable, to find one or two organizations that really mean a lot to you and do what you can to donate your money or time.
An organization I hold near and dear to my heart is a local one, the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MCSPCA). The MCSPCA is a non-profit funded solely on private donations, and their mission is to protect animals. Their work includes enforcing animal cruelty laws, spaying and neutering to reduce overpopulation, and housing homeless and abused pets until they can be adopted. They’ve been around since 1945 and have an impressive history and track record.
We adopted our cat, Cupid, from them in August and he has been such a wonderful addition to the family. The SPCA found him when he was a kitten and lived in a cat colony. The SPCA housed him for more than two years…..too long to be in a shelter! He is so grateful to have a loving family and permanent home now and we’re happy to be able to give that to him. Although he was a bit shy at first, he has opened up so much and loves to play and be petted.
If you're looking for a new pet, definitely check them out. Even If you're settled on the pet-front and can't feed another mouth right now, donations go a long way. They use donations to directly care for homeless and abused animals at their adoption centers, provide veterinary care, and to develop community awareness and education pertaining to abused and neglected animals. The SPCA also has a wish list on their website with items in need: http://monmouthcountyspca.org/support/wish-list/.
In addition, you can donate to the SPCA through our website. Simply enter the amount you wish to donate either below or at checkout. ‘Tis the season of giving!
Wishing you and your family the happiest of holidays,
